ImageFX, MusicFX, TextFX: Google’s Latest GenAI Tools

On February 1st, 2024, Google announced its latest updates on Generative AI tools, i.e., Image FX for image generation from text prompts, MusicFX for music generation from text prompts, and TextFX for text generation from prompts.
ImageFX is a new image generation tool powered by Google Deepmind’s newest text-to-image model Imagen 2 for high-quality images deliver. As compared to other image generative models/tools like OpenAI DALL-E 3, Midjourney, Meta Imagine and Microsoft Designer, ImageFX’s unique feature is “expressive chips” in the prompt interface, which let you explore and adjacent dimensions of your creation and ideas.

MusicFX, updating from the generative AI text-to-music experiment released last year, can now generate up to 70 seconds of music, with expressive chips also available for explore prompts and preference of music generated are three time higher than previous version.

TextFX is another google generative AI experiment for text generation based on providing word or concept, which was collaboration with Lupe Fiasco and developed last year. It is now implemented usability updates for user experience and navigation improvement.

While like many other GenAI tools, providing convenience for users to create image/music/text, there are ongoing safety and copyright issue like the recent deepfake Taylor Swift videos. To address this, Google introduced SynthID in their GenAI tool, which is a digital watermark that embedded in the GenAI results like image. SynthID is not detectable by human eye and ear but can be detected for identification and can be found in image/music’s metadata.


ImageFX, MusicFX and TextFX are available in labs.google.com in US, New Zealand, Kenya and Australia.
